Cornhole is a lawn game that is popular in the United States. It is played by two or four players, who take turns tossing bean bags at a raised platform with a hole in the center. The game is typically played outdoors, and the objective is to get the bean bag into the hole or on the board, which earns points. The game is played until one team reaches a score of 21 points. Cornhole is often played at social gatherings, such as backyard parties, tailgates, and picnics.
The exact origins of cornhole are not clear, but it is believed to have originated in the Midwest region of the United States in the 19th century. Some theories suggest that the game was initially played by farmers, who would toss bags filled with corn at a hole in a wooden board as a way to pass the time. Others suggest that it may have been a game played by German immigrants in the region, who used it as a way to test their accuracy and skill with a bean bag.
The modern version of cornhole, with its wooden boards and bean bags, was popularized in the 1970s in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was originally called “bean bag toss,” but the name “cornhole” eventually stuck and has become the more commonly used name for the game. In recent years, cornhole has become increasingly popular across the United States, with organized tournaments and leagues, as well as casual games played at social gatherings.
